RUSI – Military Technology Conference

We were pleased to attend the Royal United Services Institute Military Technology Conference 2025, where the spotlight was on transforming emerging technologies into operational capabilities, a challenge that aligns directly with our work at Callen-Lenz.

As discussions unfolded, it became clear that modern conflict is accelerating faster than traditional defence systems can adapt. To remain relevant and effective, we must move beyond innovation for innovation’s sake and focus on real-world integration, something we’re proud to be delivering through our autonomous systems and mission-ready technologies.

Key takeaways from the Conference:

  • Speed to Capability is Critical

Rapid integration of new tech is no longer optional; it's a strategic imperative.

  • Integration Over Invention

The defence sector must prioritise implementation and field-readiness over theoretical advancement.

  • Collaboration is Key

Cross-sector partnerships between government, industry, and academia are essential to overcome procurement and doctrinal challenges.

  • AI and Autonomy Require Trust

New technologies must be explainable, resilient, and transparent to build operational confidence.

  • Adaptability Needs Structure

Agile systems are essential, but they must still align with clear governance and accountability frameworks.

Particularly insightful were keynotes from:
Charles Forte, UK Ministry of Defence
General Jim Hockenhull KBE, Cyber & Specialist Operations Command

A big thank you to Royal United Services Institute for hosting such a timely and thought-provoking event. We're looking forward to continuing the conversations sparked here and helping to shape the future of military capability.
